TurningPoint Debuts Self-Directed Patient Care Program
TurningPoint Healthcare Solutions is launching its first care management program for health plan members who are contending with musculoskeletal pain.
The TurningPoint Digital Joint and Spine Program equips users with personalized care and recovery plans that they can follow at a self-directed pace. Any participant who requires clinical intervention can be scheduled for a telehealth consult, virtual physical therapy or an in-person visit.
The company told OTW that the program works in concert with TurningPoint's Utilization Management Program.
“Historically,” wrote the company, “attempts to manage the rising costs associated with complex specialties like musculoskeletal have come through one-off utilization management programs or member engagement platforms that aren't fully integrated with one another across the member journey. This results in mismanaged and uncoordinated care, frustrated patients and providers, and missed opportunities to manage cost and improve outcomes across the entire condition. With the launch of TurningPoint Digital Joint and Spine, TurningPoint offers an industry-leading solution that spans the entire patient journey from diagnosis through recovery, while managing full condition-specific spend for our partners.”
Company CEO Eric Pezzi told OTW, “The data from more than 30 million lives under our management showed us the value of bringing upstream member engagement tools to our health plan and employer clients that proactively identify members before their conditions worsen. Stitching this member experience together with TurningPoint’s clinical expertise equips our clients with the support they need to offer safe, affordable, and high-quality care for their members.”
“Our goal was always to provide best-in-class, clinically-driven support for members that’s culturally responsive and individualized—extending foundational concepts of TurningPoint’s clinical expertise directly to the member. None of the commercially available exercise content that we evaluated had the clinical depth or type of patient experience that we wanted to deliver. So we decided to leverage TurningPoint’s strong clinical bench and develop proprietary content grounded in evidence-based principles of care. Unlike other digital musculoskeletal solutions that deliver a written article or an animated image of an exercise, TurningPoint’s content delivers content in high-definition, full motion video that delivers maximum impact for health plan members and patients.”
When OTW asked how this moves care management upstream, Pezzi replied, “The Digital Joint and Spine program uses AI-driven patient identification that allows us to find our most vulnerable members before their condition worsens and engage with them through personalized telehealth and coaching directly in their homes. TurningPoint creates a more holistic experience for the patient and provides a first-of-its-kind complete condition-specific operational risk and spend management tool that can drive cost savings.”
