Newport Beach, California-based Trias Global and Chicago, Illinois-based Chicago Pacific Founders, a healthcare investment fund, have announced a partnership to expand Newport Beach, California-based DISC Sports & Spine Center.

Trias Global is a musculoskeletal management company and, as a result of the agreement, is now the parent company of DISC’s ambulatory surgery center (ASC) and DISC surgery center at Newport Beach. As part of the agreement, Trias Global will drive the company’s expansion. At the forefront of the expansion will be the newly named Trias Global CEO James H. Becker, a former UnitedHealth Group executive and recent president of Optum Global Operations.

Becker will work hand-in-hand with DISC Founding Director Robert S. Bray, Jr., M.D. Dr. Bray, a board certified neurological spine surgeon, founded DISC in 2006 after a successful career at Cedar Sinai where he founded The Institute for Spinal Disorders. DISC provides “high-acuity, minimally invasive spine surgery” and “arthroscopy in an outpatient setting.”

OTW spoke with Becker about what sets DISC apart from all of the other ASCs out there. Becker told us: “Over the years, DISC has efficiently optimized site-of-service care for outpatient spine surgery, but what distinguishes DISC on a national level is the ASC's ability to routinely deliver the highest quality outcomes for the most complex spine surgeries—cases previously requiring lengthy hospital stays—all while providing an unsurpassed patient experience (98% NPS [Net Promoter Score]) at a lower cost point and efficiency.”

Becker continued, “The model Dr. Bray has created with DISC has truly set the gold standard in spine care.”

Becker also discussed the company’s expansion plans, telling OTW, “Our initial focus includes a planned expansion in Southern California that we're very excited to unveil in the coming months. Simultaneously, we're also engaging in discussions to broaden that reach by expanding the DISC model nationally.”

Becker continued, “Looking forward, as we work on expanding DISC's services and model, we will also be focused on creating strategic global billing partnerships that increase both efficiency and transparency in the event of care.”
